Be On the Lookout For Scams

You need to be aware that there are scammers who prey on people seeking work in the travel/hospitality industry. Sometimes a person will claim to work for a cruise line, hotel chain, or other operation and tell you that you need to send them money to pay for “uniforms” or some other expense. They will usually follow up this request with a statement mentioning that your cost will be refunded later. Don’t be fooled — this is the oldest scam going! You’ll send your money via Western Union and never see it again. Western Union cannot help you, TravelAccountants can not help you; you’ll be left poorer and feeling rather stupid.

If the deal sounds too good, then it probably is very bad. Ask plenty of questions when talking to a company representative and doubt any claims where someone is promising you something that they simply cannot deliver to you. If you are being pressured to act fast then there is a reason for that — you’ll act faster than you can think, just what the scammers want.

Don’t be caught in a scam — when in doubt, don’t.
