Assistant Chef/Baker

Position is located on one of the company’s two cruise ships, traveling in the U.S. and Canada.

Responsible for preparing and serving meals with the Chef.
Primary responsibility is baking, salad and hors d’oeuvre preparation, and desserts.

  • Assist with preparation of three daily meals in a timely manner.
  • Responsible for baking all breads daily, as well as muffins, pastries, etc.
  • Prepare all salads and appetizers, and desserts.
  • Assist the Chef with preparing and serving hors d’oeuvre for Captain’s Welcome Aboard and Farewell Parties.
  • Work with guests with dietary restrictions to find and prepare suitable alternative meals.
  • Interact with guests in a professional and friendly manner.
  • Maintain daily galley and galley stores cleanliness, sanitation, safety standards, and organization.
  • Adhere to CDC guidelines for galley sanitation and food handling.
  • Assist with inventories and ordering.
  • Participate in loading of food stores.

Safety Duties:

Will receive proper safety training and be required to respond to safety drills and actual emergencies, s listed on ship’s safety billet. Such emergencies to include fire, man overboard, abandon ship, etc.

Job Requirements:

  • Baking experience a must.
  • Other culinary experience preferred.
  • Travel experience preferred.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must be U.S. Citizen or legally able to work in the U.S.
  • All positions require pre-employment and random drug testing, as per U.S. Coast Guard and DOT regulations.
  • Physical Demands: All vessel positions can be physically demanding and require repetitive motion, bending, climbing, and often heavy lifting. Must be able to climb or descend ladderways (often while carrying food supplies), and navigate tight spaces such as hatches and safety escapes. Every crew member works varied shifts, which average 10-12 hours a day, every day while on board.
  • Must possess communication and interpersonal skills, and be able to live and work with others in a tight working/living environment.
  • Must possess a positive, customer-oriented attitude.

Education Requirements:

  • Culinary and/or baking degree preferred, or strong equivalent job experience.
